I am lazy incarenate sorry

Alright so our idea is;

Scavenger hunt in which you are given tasks/ scenarios which you need to complete. One scenario could be that you need to rob a bank. You cannot rob a bank with your bare hands and the shirt off your back so you need specific items to aid you. A list of these items is sent to you, i.e; a copper pipe, Heshon (spelling?) sack, masks to cover your face and a getaway car. You do not need to buy these items, but you must take a picture of each of them. The pictures will be uploaded to a sub forum on a website dedicated to the particular challenge. The photos will be graded not on the quality of the photo, but if they are pliable to the situation. For each useable object you receive one point, for a photo missing or an unusable item a point is not used.

This game will done in teams of 5-6 OR since it's graded online and the team members do not need to physically know each other- For each challenge you can form teams and all the points go to the individuals. So if a team wins, everyone gets those points, if they loose they have points deducted. This would be so there is competition between forum members to have the highest score.

For challenges there could also be a few item quests they need to complete. I'll use a bank robbery for example.

I'll try to make some details clearer.

Teams- how they work/ are formed, how the pictures are judged/ uploaded.

There will be a website, lets call it urbanstrikeforce.org as an example. If you go to
urbanstrikeforce.org > forums > Challenges > Bank Robbery

In Bank Robbery- the top unmovable post will be the explanation of the robbery. It will tell you part one of the challenge, and when it's to be completed- and when Part two will be edited in. The posts underneath it would be the posts made by the already formed teams with their pictures and small explanation for Part 1. When the date for part one closes and Part 2 is put up, all teams would have of edited their posts with their contribution for part 2. After the date for part 2 is closed, the moderator grades the team, and when completed, makes a post detailing the winners- losers and adds points to the individuals profiles.

Forming a team. Lets say you go a forum allocated to forming a team
urbanstrikeforce.org>forums > teams> form teams

How the challenges would look/work. The posts would have a small back story, then tell the teams what they need to get.

Bank Robbery Challenge Part 1

Find a safe place to meet and discuss the robbery.
A bank in which to rob.
Somewhere to lay law after the robbery.
A car to drive to the bank in.

Bank Robbery Challenge Part 2

Masks to obscure your face without drawing too much attention to your face (voice.)
A sack in which to put the money in.
A different car to escape in.
An household item to use as a weapon.

The photos would need to be taken with a camera by yourself though. So I'm unsure how to stop people from cheating and just uploading pictures. Maybe they need to be in the pictures themselves, or flash a wristband (one of those annoying fluro ones) which says strikeforce.org in it. IE to authenticate the picture, your wrist needs to be in it, flashing the websites logo. The bracelets are given out to teams once they register on the site. But since that’s costly, you could make your own bracelet, or write it on your palm in marker.

I'll try to make some details clearer.

For this challenge we'll have to construct this website, and wrangle at least 3 teams into a challenge over the next week so we can show how it works. I can force some people into it, but if you have any friends you can make do it? Great. We need to allocate one of us to moderate the pictures and allocate points. If it's more than one person for now, it'll become messy.

Okkays.

This idea is simple to pull off, and it requires no little fiddley gadgets. This is in essence a physical game. We can always say, there can be an iPhone app devolped later down the track for individual challenges, so you can upload pictures and mark them on google maps.

Oooook. Sorry about the spelling,

Feedback

OK just thought i'd put up some of the questions raised in todays lecture (well the ones that I was fast enough to write down). Also Someone asked how we could fit mltiple people in a zorb ball - thats already possible, you can get up to 3 people actually.

-Time limit to the game?

-How is it computerised (i would have thought buttons?!)

-Change it from buttons to a capture the flag type situation, where you not only have to get up the teams base, but back to yours too.

-Having it in a dome sort of area rather then a halfpipe (though this confused me cause how would u get up to the button 'area'

-Danger factor (so how badly are people doing to get hurt, maybe if we considered protection gear like helmets, kneepads etc)

Another idea

Right, so, like George I was absent today, so I'm just offering a quick idea before the "madness" pitching tomorrow.
Anyone familiar with the century-old game Tesla Ball? It was a sport for young ladies that utilised technology devised by Nikola Tesla.
The arena is a typical court, but instead of goals, there is a switch across a line that closes a circuit and rings a bell when the shoulder-high leather ball is rolled over it. There are two teams of four, and the game was considered quite difficult and often resulted in torn clothing as the participants fought for control of the ball. Some were also slightly squished!
It's a simple concept that we could evolve into an awesome game by updating it a bit and making it more challenging.

GUIZE

Hay, Sorry I'm not at uni today, I've been coughing for two days non stop :(. I wanted to be so we could discuss as a group ideas because we have that 2 minute presentation is tomorrow. I'll be home in a few hours, my msn is extreme__shreder@hotmail.com, if we wanted to add each other and discuss ideas

Brainstorming Ala Joe

I suppose our game need not be enormous. It would be good to have something we could actually demonstrate in the lecture hall (lecture small room, morelike). How about...some kind of zombie game? Olol cliche.

  • A SMALL GROUP stands vigilant in a corner of the room. They wear some kind of ITEM OF CLOTHING.
  • A LARGE GROUP, the larger the better, dominate the rest of the room. Their feet are tied together so that they cannot run, merely shuffle awkwardly. Their hands are also tied (or held behind their backs), and therefore useless. They wear DEVICES on their FOREHEADS. These DEVICES have a single large BUTTON on the front. They also wear a SECOND ITEM OF CLOTHING with a BUTTON on their CHESTS.
  • The LARGE GROUP staggers awkwardly toward the SMALL GROUP and attempts to lightly headbutt them in such a way as to cause the BUTTON in the assailant's FOREHEAD is pressed. When it is pressed, the ITEM OF CLOTHING worn by the members of the LARGE GROUP administers a small ELECTRIC SHOCK to the recipient of the headbutt.
  • The SMALL GROUP attempts to evade headbutts and dispatch each "zombie" (member of the large group) by pressing the BUTTON ON HIS CHEST. This administers a mild electric shock to the zombie, and the zombie is removed from the game for a period of time.
  • When a person who is not a zombie is zapped, they are incapacitated. Game ends when all persons who are not zombies are incapacitated.

JUST A RANDOM IDEA YO'

Brainstorming 2

I've been trying to think of ideas but I keep drawing a blank, other then some sort of machine that tells dogs to "sit" "drop" and spits out a treat when they do... maybe the dogs have to perform a series of moves each time, and each session it gets harder and longer before they get the treat...

I really love Steffs idea, i also went and had a look at the RMIT city campus map to see what sort of games could be implemented there(http://mams.rmit.edu.au/ah5hshrpo0ky.pdf), the only one that seemed viable was pacman, but that has already been done in new york... Maybe you guys can think of something that could be done? :)

I also remembered this scene in scrubs when they recreated space invaders: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=A1JMmb3Q4B4
It's not electronic but I'm sure we could make it electronic somehow, or maybe our own version of bricks breaking!

Brain-storming

Here's a remotely viable idea:
Urban noughts and crosses/tic-tac-toe

Utilising Melbourne's Hoddle grid system, the CBD is divided into a "board" that is viewable on the players' iPhone. The players, wearing tracking devices that can be received and recorded on both screens, move along the grid, either circling a block or making a cross by foot. This may involve going through shops or down laneways to complete the shape. If the shape is too vague, the application will disregard their efforts.
Say if the game were timed, and the player did not complete a recognisable nought or cross in the square, or if the shape is too small, the turn would go to the other player. Players must move along the grid lines themselves to move from one square to another, where their movement will not be recorded as a "go", or even detected, as this would allow to their opponent to see where they are planning their next move. After a nought or cross has been made, the next player is green-lit to record their movements in the square.
Options for this include the size of the "board", and with it, the time constraints. Because Melbourne has a tram system, the lowest level would be played in the CBD along tram-serviced streets, with more complicated games taking place in areas without trams. On harder levels, the time constraints would require the players to run.

As we know, first ideas are never the best, so let's hear some more.
